Date #11: Oh, Doctor!

This man works in alternative medicine, speaks a Romance language, and travels extensively. His profile reads like a novel. Obviously well educated and a very good writer. Very expressive on the phone. He owns a couple of houses and he works seasonally in his branch of medicine, so I think he is a good candidate financially. I prefer men who own property because that lessens the chance that they are looking for a woman to take care of them. I haven't been this excited about an upcoming date in a long time. He invited me to an upscale bar for cocktails at 6 PM. He called a few hours before the date to ask if I wasn't busy, would I mind meeting him a little earlier than we had planned. I immediately assumed that he had a dinner date lined up after me, and took this as a bad sign. After we met, I found out that this was not the case at all. He had simply finished work early and was as excited to meet me as I was to meet him. There was definitely not another woman in his plans that evening because after we talked for a few hours, he asked me to stay and have dinner with him in the restaurant adjacent to the bar. Oh my God, I really like him. He looks like a young Gene Wilder, with the same deadpan humor and wiry hair. He's quick, funny, and very eloquent without being one bit snobbish. Too many dates have made me feel like I was on display and being passed over like yesterday's slightly spoiled cutlets, but not this guy. For the first time in weeks, I felt that the conversation was equal on both sides and I didn't have to prove anything. We laughed a lot. We had whole conversations in a foreign tongue. I definitely felt some chemistry, and I think he did too, but we'll see if he follows through. After the date, under the influence of a few glasses of wine, he asked me out to lunch next week at a nice restaurant that he had discovered at the beach. In his email the next morning however, there was no mention of said lunch. I'll find out soon enough if his feelings are as strong as mine.

I'm so excited for you. I know you shouldn't hang all your hopes on one great date, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you!

Grama - I haven't spoken to him in a few days, so it doesn't bode well for the Doctor. Look for an update in my next post.
